NEXT TRAJAN STORY
Every major force on the front used some form of 155mm gun as it was a widely accepted caliber and tried in many conflicts. Nexter in France produced one such, the "TRAJAN", a 155mm/52 caliber trailed indirect fire field howitzer used by the armed forces. TRAJAN is known as a reliable and powerful battlefield equipment with modern components designed to meet all customer needs.
It is based on the advantages of the TR-F1 towed gun and the main gun mounted on the CAESAR platform for self-propelled vehicles in service with the modern French army (described in detail elsewhere on this website).
TRAJAN is a complete 13-ton combat system that can be airborne in the belly of heavy transport aircraft such as the Airbus A400M "Atlas" and Boeing C-17 "Globemaster III". When transported by air, the TRAJAN is transported as a unit and operates as a separate part after landing, requiring only typical crew preparations.
When ready to be transported with moving vehicles, the armament-carrying wheeled split track can withstand road speeds of up to 80 km/h and off-road speeds of up to 30 km/h. The crew consists of six people and can deploy the artillery system to fire in 1.5 minutes.
The weapon can fire 155mm NATO standard projectiles (155mm 39/52 caliber NATO) and "smart" ammunition as required. It can sustain a rate of fire of up to 45 rounds per 30 minutes and a range of up to 42 km (using extended range, full caliber - ERFB - projectiles). Fully disposable cases speed up the reloading process, eliminating the need to eject used cases from the breech.
The complete TRAJAN system includes a ballistic computer for precision long-range firing, a Muzzle Velocity Radar (MVR) system and an ammunition handling crane.
TRAJAN Artillery Systems is actively selling to the Indian Army through the Towed Gun System (TGS) programme in search of their next 155mm gun.
