History

The Italian-made Type 6614 is a 4x4 armoured personnel carrier jointly built by defence contractors FIAT and Oto Melara. The Type 6614 is commanded by one person (the driver) and can carry up to 10 combat-ready passengers, equipment or medical waste.

Mission-specific weapons (including dual .30 caliber machine guns) can be mounted on powered cupolas and provide firing ports for interior passengers (9 total - 4 left, 3 right, and 2 aft).

The Type 6614 is very similar to the Type 6616 armored car and is fully amphibious (powered by its own wheels and an integrated bilge pump system). Passive armor is provided, as well as smoke grenade launchers for increased crew and cargo area protection.

Overall, the FIAT/Oto Melara Type 6614 is an adaptable frame vehicle suitable for a number of mission roles that are currently involved in urban warfare and defense in Iraq with the Italian security services. The Type 6614 is also produced locally under license in Korea.
