History
The High Precision Systems Bizon is a Russian short-range counter-UAV defense system developed by the High Precision Systems holding of Rostec. It is described as the export version of the Zubr system supplied to Russian military units.
Bizon is intended to protect critical infrastructure and other fixed facilities against small, low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles. The system combines radar-based detection and automated target tracking with 7.62 mm PKT machine-gun mounts, while a human operator retains the final decision to fire.
Rostec began promoting Bizon internationally in 2026 and planned its international presentation in Egypt during the El Alamein International Airshow scheduled for 8-10 September 2026.
Development and export promotion
The domestic Zubr system was reported as having entered Russian military service by late January 2026. Zubr was developed by High Precision Systems, a Rostec holding company, as a point-defense system for critical infrastructure, military facilities and industrial sites. According to Defence Blog, the system carries the designation TKB-1167 and is intended to engage drones and other small low-altitude targets that can be difficult for conventional air-defense weapons to intercept.
In September 2026, Rostec promoted the export version under the Bizon name to potential customers in Egypt. No contract price, delivery schedule or implementation timetable was disclosed. Defensehere reported that Rostec planned to bring Bizon to the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 for presentation to the international market.
Aviacionline described the Egyptian event as Bizon's first international presentation and reported additional details of the firing stations, including electro-optical equipment and the possibility of installing the system on wheeled mobile platforms. Design
Bizon is designed as a close-range defensive layer against unmanned aircraft approaching protected facilities. Its architecture combines a radar, a control element and machine-gun firing stations. The radar detects and tracks aerial targets and supplies targeting information to the weapon mounts. The system can also receive target information from external detection assets, allowing it to operate either independently or as part of a broader layered counter-UAV network.
Sensors and fire control
According to the developer's reported claims, the radar associated with the Zubr and Bizon family can detect both small and larger aerial targets. Source reporting on the domestic Zubr gives a claimed detection distance of up to 1.5 km. Because published export information does not independently establish a different Bizon radar range, this figure should be treated as a reported family-system capability rather than a separately verified export specification.
The system is described as automatically detecting a UAV and placing it under automatic tracking. Target data are then transmitted to the firing stations. The human operator authorizes the engagement. Aviacionline additionally reported that each Bizon firing station includes television and thermal-imaging channels, automatic target tracking and a laser rangefinder.
Armament
Bizon uses 7.62 mm PKT machine guns to engage small aerial targets at short range. Published descriptions consistently identify four PKT machine guns on an individual weapon mount. The domestic Zubr configuration has been reported with four separate combat modules, a centralized command post and a radar. Public descriptions of the export Bizon configuration refer more generally to a control centre and several firing units, so the exact number of modules in an export installation should not be assumed to be fixed.
Mobility
Aviacionline reported that Bizon firing equipment can be mounted on wheeled mobile platforms. This arrangement is intended to support deployment and repositioning of firing stations. Other available reports emphasize the system's role in protecting infrastructure and do not establish a single mandatory carrier configuration.
Program status
As of September 2026, Bizon was being marketed as the export version of the already fielded Russian Zubr system. Rostec was promoting it to potential customers in Egypt and planned to display it at the El Alamein International Airshow.
