Assar-i-Tewfik served in the Ottoman Empire as an iron-clad coastal battery frigate. The ship was originally thought to be the "Ibramiya" and served the Egyptians when it was launched in 1868, and was eventually transferred to the Ottoman Empire. It was completed in 1869.
Assar-i-Tewfik has a displacement of 4,690 tons, a length of 272 feet, a beam of 52.5 feet and a draft of 21 feet. Her primary armament is concentrated near the hopper and consists of an 8 x 9 inch muzzle-loaded main gun. For added firepower, the armored armor is also equipped with 2 x 87 mm guns and 2 x 63.5 mm guns.
For protection, she left 8 inches in the belt. Her crew number is 320. The Assar-i-Tewfik profile includes a three-mast approach with a smoke funnel installed between the fore and main mast. The overall shape of the hull is fairly traditional, with a pointed toe and rounded stern.
Primary weapons are mounted in outboard turrets to ensure optimal engagement angles while protecting the ship's most critical operational components. Assar-i-Tewfik's propulsion turned into a coke-fueled boiler to fuel the compound engine. Overall, this developed 3,560 horsepower. Under ideal conditions, the boat can reach a top speed of 13 knots and has a range of 1,845 miles.
In 1891, her main guns were replaced by 2 x 8.3" guns.
Due to its design, the Assar-i-Tewfik provided great agility and could be done in a smaller size compared to other ironclad ships of the time. During the First Balkan War (1912-1913), she served under the Ottoman flag and was called up to fight in the Balkan League against Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Montenegro. She was wounded after an attack on Bulgarian troops near the Dandaner Strait.
From there she served until February 11, 1912, where she ran aground on the Bosphorus in Potima and was abandoned by her crew.
