UMS Kyan Sittha (F12)

History

Myanmars geography requires funding for an efficient, modern navy. Currently staffed by nearly 20,000 people, the warships range from powerful frigates and frigates to torpedoes and roller coasters.

One of their more interesting components is the Kyan Sittha-class frigate, the first ship in their naval service history to incorporate stealth into its sleek and stylish form factor. This means fully enclosed masts, low chimneys and as few overhangs as possible on the deck.

Upon completion, the class is expected to bring in a total of five ships, two of which are already in service - UMS Kyan Sittha (F12) and UMS Hsin Byushin (F14).

This class of battleship Kyan Sittha (F12) was built by the Myanmar Navy Yard and launched on 22 October 2012. She was commissioned on 31 March 2014 and is currently active in the Myanmar Navy Fleet. Draining 3,000 tons under standard load, she measures 348 feet long and 44 feet wide. Her installed power includes 4 SEMT Pielstick 16 PA6 STC diesel units rated at 7,600 hp in a combined diesel and diesel unit (CODAD).

Under ideal conditions, the top speed is 30 knots and the range is up to 3,800 miles. As a frigate, Kyan Sittha has naval support and independent deep-water combat capabilities covering multiple mission types.

Internally, the warship consists of systems and sensors from China, Russia and India. Also installed is the BEL RAWL-02 Mk III (India) L-band 2D search radar, and the Type 362 (China) missile targeting radar system.

Two Type 47 Fire Control Radars (FCR) were also installed, as well as a BEL HMS-X (India) sonar unit mounted on the hull.

Again, her armament was mainly foreign - commanded by a 1 x 76mm OTO Melara deck gun with a turret (Italy) above the first floor. She carries 8 x C-802 Anti-Ship Missile (ASM) (China) and 6 x Igla Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) (Russia) in response to threats from ships or air strikes.

3 x 30mm NG-18 six-barreled weapons (Russia) as the last line of defense in the close-in weapons system (CIWS) role. She also carries anti-submarine missiles (ASROC) and torpedoes to counter underwater threats.

Above her stern is a helipad and full-service hangar facility for launching and recovering a Navy helicopter - usually a Kamov Ka-27 or similar.
