History

The Vishnya class (also known as the Meridian class) was a group of reconnaissance ships built for the Soviet Navy in the 1980s. These ships are still in service with the Russian Navy. The Soviet name was Project 864.

These ships are large purpose-built ships designed to collect signal information through a large number of sensors. Data can be transmitted ashore via satellite link antennas mounted in two large radomes.

The ships are equipped with two AK-630 close-in weapons systems and SA-N-8 SAM launchers as a last resort for self-defense.
