History of USS Benjamin Stoddert (DDG-22)

USS BENJAMIN STODDERT (DDG-22) was the 21st Charles F. Adams class destroyer, commissioned on September 12, 1964. Built at Lockheed Shipyard in Seattle, Washington, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT deployed to the Western Pacific several times during the Vietnam War. USS BENJAMIN STODDERT spent her entire service career in the Pacific Fleet "DDG" and later "West Pacs", which prompted her to sail to the Indian Ocean.

In 1990, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT crossed the Panama Canal as part of an anti-drug operation in Central America, visiting Willemstad, Curacao for a few days before returning to the Pacific via the Panama Canal. The aircraft carrier USS Benjamin Stodd served her country for 27 years, 3 months and 8 days before being decommissioned on December 20, 1991. After USS BENJAMIN STODDERT was put on hold at NISMF - Pearl Harbor, she was sold as scrap.

On February 3, 2001, the hull of the BENJAMIN STODDERT fell into the water and capsized in the Pacific Ocean while being towed from Hawaii to the Panama Canal and a Texas dump in severe weather.
