History

Arsenal AD in Bulgaria was established in 1878 to produce a locally improved version of the legendary Soviet-era Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle called the "AR-M1". The design incorporates the sight base of the AK-74 series rifle and features a black polymer stock, muzzle flash suppressor and illuminated iron sights. Rail sections are provided for mounting different optics.

The weapon is available in 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x39mm rifled.

Variants include the AR-M1F, a folding stock model. The AR-M2 is an advanced form of the base AR-M1, but with a shortened barrel assembly, a muzzle flash suppressor/muzzle booster attachment and an AKS-74U style sight base. Its counterpart to the folding stock is the AR-M2F.

The assault carbine model is believed to be the AR-M4SF and incorporates the red dot sight from the AKS-74 series. Various nighttime and low-level light optics are also supported. AR-M7F is equipped with AK-101 style folding stock.

The AR-M9 features a thumb-operated fire selector and an improved polymer stock section. Its counterpart to the folding stock is the AR-M9F. Black polymer fairings and illuminated sights welcome the AR-1 and AR-1F folding stock designs.

The AR-SF is influenced by the AKS-74U and includes a laser sight.

The AR-M1 is part of a new Iraqi Army inventory.
