History of Arsenal Firearms AF-1 (Strike One)

In 2012, an Italian-Russian joint venture called Arsenal Firearms launched a new hammerless lightweight polymer semi-automatic pistol called the AF-1 "Strike One". The design is credited to Nicola Bandini and Dimitry Streshinsky and incorporates several notable patented features into the final product.

The US is expected to import the pistol "sometime" in 2014.

AF-1 features steel and reinforced polymer frame construction and shallow slides. The breech has fore and aft grip areas for cocking the weapon. The visor is available in fixed or adjustable variants. The handle displays a number of ergonomic textures to ensure control when handling and shooting. Dimensions listed for the AF-1 include an overall length of 210mm and a cold forged barrel of 128mm.

The combat version of the weapon is slightly smaller in size to improve compactness and reduce overall carry weight. The AF1 has a right-side magazine and a patented ambidextrous "push-button" magazine release. The angled magazine is located at the bottom of the pistol grip as usual and holds up to 17 rounds of 9x19mm staggered rounds. In addition to the base 9 x 19 mm Parabellum cavity, there are also molds for the 9 x 21 IMI, .357 SIG and .40 switch. The AF-1 is single-action (SAO).

The frame has a lower barrel section with Picatinny rails for carrying tactical lights or scope accessories. The collection is available in a variety of colors to suit buyer tastes, including Armory Black, Olive Green and Desert Brown.

Arsenal Firearms marketed the AF-1 as one of the fastest semi-auto shooters on the market, thanks to its short firing pin trigger/short recoil, which uses an inline barrel operation and a patented locking block arrangement (recoil operation box). Several built-in safety features have been implemented, including a patented automatic safety trigger and automatic striker safety.

It has been determined that the AF-1 can be the new sidearm for rearmament of the Russian Armed Forces.
