History

The

Brugger & Thomet APR (Advanced Precision Rifle) is billed as a complete sniper system package containing all the tools the modern warrior needs to accomplish the task at hand. The B&T APR is classified as a traditional "anti-personnel" sniper system and therefore does not belong to the growing family of "anti-material" rifles emerging worldwide. This rifle comes from the famous Swiss arms company Brugger & Thomet.

Its base form is for the .308 Winchester Rifle Cartridge - as well as the military-focused 7.62x51mm NATO Standard Cartridge - and the .338 Lapua Magnum version is also part of the range. Design of the rifle began in 2003 and production form was completed in 2005.

This . Version 338 was added in 2008.

On the outside, the Brugger & Thomet APR has a traditional design and layout, built and functional using decades-proven gunsmith craftsmanship. The receiver manages the weapon's key internal functions, including the bolt action handle (offset to the right side of the shooter's body), ejection port, magazine feed, optical mount (via Picatinny rails) and an ergonomic The trigger system of the pistol grip. The trigger is solid, while the trigger ring allows the use of a gloved hand when firing. The magazine feeder accepts detachable box magazines for approved cartridges and is located directly in front of the trigger system.

For the support hand, there is a short, upward-sloping handguard with an adjustable bipod attached to the end. A detachable high-performance precision barrel is mounted on the front end and is attached to the receiver at its base. A small muzzle brake completes the business end of the barrel. The shoulder rest is equipped with a spiked monopod that enables a three-point stance when the shooter is prone and cheek rested. The butt pegs are adjustable, and the shoulder rest itself allows for precision shooting.

There is a crosshair behind the muzzle. An optional "mirage-proof" tape can be added to the barrel length to cover the effects of heat rising from the barrel after firing. The APR is conveniently broken down into 11 major repair and maintenance components.

These include the barrel, scope, stock, trigger group, breech, magazine, muzzle brake, silencer (if present), anti-phantom strip (if present) and receiver, which itself is split into two separate entity.

Dimensionally, the APR has an overall length of 1,139mm with the stock open and the barrel itself is 610mm long. Rifle has 4 grooves, 1:11" right-hand ratio and is designed for over 7,000 shots. Total weight is 7.01 kg. Effective range is 1,000 meters. Trigger pull is between 1.5 and 2.5 kg.

Similar to APR338 The overall length is 1,236mm, and the barrel is 690mm. The barrel has 6 grooves, the right hand twist is 1:11, and it is rated for 5000 rounds. The total weight is 8.2 kg. Effective range up to 1,300 meters.

Brugget & Thomet APR is a "bolt-on" rifle system, which means that the operator manually manages the removal of spent cartridges from the firing chamber and the insertion of new cartridges from the magazine by sliding down the ball head The grip moves the right side of the weapon body. Typically, the bolt handle is moved backwards to perform unload/load operations. Behind the bolt handle and trigger group is a selector switch for safety and free fire modes.

Removable box magazines are stacked. Each magazine contains up to 10 rounds of custom ammo, primarily . 308 Winchester/7. 62x51mm NATO cartridges. As the name suggests, the APR338 fits the . 338 Lapua Magnum cartridge.

The basic scope used by the APR is the Schmidt & Bender 3-12x50. This was renamed B&T TRS (Tactical Rifle Scope) by Brugger & Thomet. It is 355 mm long and weighs 900 grams. It features a quick disconnect system and is supported along the top of the receiver by a Picatinney MIL STD 1913 rail system with Simrad adapters.

Wind deflection, elevation, parallax, diopter, and illumination can all be adjusted via various knobs located throughout the scope design. The finish is solid black to reduce spot reflections. Day and night functions are possible.

Optional suppressor called Brugger & Thomet GRS rated for . 308 Winchester/7. 61x51mm NATO standard rifle cartridge. It is 243mm long, 40mm in diameter and weighs 897 grams. The suppressor is screwed onto the APR's barrel via an M20x1 threaded attachment and is rated at 33 dBa for 5,000 shots.

The APR is available in four different market forms: the B&T APR308 and B&T APR338 are both military-oriented models, with each designation representing its respective caliber. The B&T APR308P is used for law enforcement, while the B&T APR308S is the "suppressed" variant.

All products are designed to work out of the box, with Brugger & Thomet claiming the same precision in military and sports environments. All models feature a muzzle brake to hide the shooter's position and reduce recoil, a folding adjustable stock with an integrated stock, a fully adjustable trigger system, an adjustable shoulder strap and adjustable Disassembled magazine.

To date, only Luxembourg and Singapore have purchased B&T Precision APR systems in bulk. Both use the .308 variant.
