History
The Brugger & Thomet GL-06 is a Swiss made single-shot, reusable grenade launcher. The small company Brugger & Thomet, founded in 1991 by Karl Brugger and Heinrich Thomet, supplies weapons silencers to the Swiss defense and law enforcement authorities.
Thomet left the company to give Brugger sole control, and the company has since expanded into multiple overseas gun markets with products such as the relatively new GL-06. The GL-06 is marketed to police and military customers, where it can perform a variety of roles including crowd control, suppression and crowd control.
The GL-06 is operated from a manually loaded single-shot breakaway breech chamber that is loaded with 40x46mm caliber shells. Its operating range is very similar to that of the American Vietnam War M79 "Bloop Tube" 40mm grenade launcher or the similar 1960s HK69A1 made by the German company Heckler & Koch. The muzzle velocity is 279 feet per second, and the effective range is up to 300 meters. The operator can use iron sights for accurate shooting.
The weapon weighs 4.52 pounds and has a collapsible stock that reduces the original 23.3" length to a more manageable 15.2" range. The barrel length is 11 inches.
From the outside, the GL-06 looks more like a compact submachine gun. The design is more or less dominated by a cylindrical launch tube that flips forward to unfold and accommodate a new 40mm shell. The sight is mounted on the back of the tube and opens with it.
The receiver is durable and ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand. The action is released via a solid trigger mechanism that is housed in a hardened trigger ring attached to an ergonomic pistol grip.
The collapsible stock is essentially the skeleton and reduces the overall weight of the weapon system. An optional front vertical grip can be mounted under the nose, accessories (red dot sight, flashlight) can be mounted on the launch tube and the upper side of the nose near the vertical nose. The strap is optional and attaches to a loop near the upper rear area of ??the receiver.
The base color of the production GL-06 is matte black.
The GL-06 can fire multiple 40mm ammunition types at low velocity and is designed to make it an acceptable foreign product. The LL-06 is a "less lethal" variant of the GL-06 base, featuring a bright yellow finish on the receiver, pistol grip and stock.
Despite its less lethal marketing phrasing, the LL-06 is said to retain its inherent properties and can handle all types of 40mm projectiles as needed.
The basic GL-06 grenade launcher is available in two visually distinct forms - one with collapsible tubular ballistic helmet goggles and one with collapsible skeleton.
