History of the Fabrique Nationale FN SLP (Self-Loading Police)

Fabrique Nationale (FN Herstal) SLP (Self-Loading Police) is a modern tactical grade bolt action shotgun (as the name suggests) for the law enforcement market. It was launched in 2008 and is now available in standard form, namely SLP Mark I, SLP Tactical and SLP Mark 1 Tactical. It is a downright traditional shotgun with a self-loading mechanism based on the famous 1902 Browning Auto-5.

The FN SLP is recognized as an excellent shotgun system that has been recognized for its reliability and quality.

The action of the SLP is gas powered and has a semi-automatic fire capability while being fed from a multi-shot magazine tube mounted under the barrel. Sighting is via a tritium ghost ring sight (adjustable) coupled to the front sighting device. The grip is integrated as part of the receiver and stock and is ergonomically designed to fit snugly in the user's main hand. The shaft is made of plastic and is not adjustable. The trigger is traditionally down and within easy reach of the handle.

The receiver is kept very clean in detail, with the ejection port and charging handle on the right side. Weapons are loaded through a port located under the front of the receiver. Along the top of the receiver is a short section of Picatinny rail (MIL-STD-1913) to support various accessories to suit user needs.

The forearm is smooth and long, providing a large landing area for the secondary hand when firing. A perforated recoil pad sits on the shoulder rest to provide some comfort while shooting. The overall finish is a dark matte.

The differences between the

variants are subtle but noteworthy. The SLP Standard weighs about 7.5 pounds, while the Mark I Tactical adds up to 1 pound. Overall lengths for the entire series range from 39 to 43 inches, and barrels range from 18 to 22 inches.

The Standard model uses up to 7 rounds (when chambered), while the Mark I can use up to 9 (when chambered).
