Hirtenberger M6C (Commando)

History

Outfitting ordinary infantry with useful line-of-sight (LoS) weapons remains an ongoing challenge for modern warfare planners. Austria's Hirtenberger sells its M6C "Commando" mortar because it is lightweight and requires very little setup before going into battle. The system has a caliber of 60mm and a weight of 6.4kg, so the mortar can be carried in a backpack or slung over the shoulder.

The product is available in a variety of styles and supports day, night and infrared visible light.

The weapon is aimed via the HDS sighting device, which guarantees high accuracy at long distances. This arrangement allows operators to meet height requirements with a quick and easy process and also prevents components from being affected.

The built-in LED lighting function is powered internally by the battery. Steel is used to make the barrel assembly, which is rated to a Charge 3 tolerance. The front of the assembly provides a cover to protect the shooter's hands from burns in the heat of battle.

Riders can use two types of soleplates - one for soft terrain and one for hard terrain. The latter integrates a steel mandrel into its design.

To make replacement easier, the M6C-640 features a tool-less "quick change" feature that allows the operator to complete the change in approximately 10 seconds.

The M6C series comes in several forms: Mk 2, Mk 2-s and "Commando". The main difference between each model is its listed combat range, with the Mk 2 reporting 1,920 meters, the Mk 2-s 2,010 meters and the Commando 2,360 meters. The total length of all types is 840mm and the launch tube is 640mm.

The M6C has been approved to fire a full range of mortar rounds/projectiles worldwide. Operators include Austria, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Japan.
