History
The M6 ??mortar is a light 60mm infantry mortar manufactured by Hirtenberger AG in Austria. The mortar has a traditional smoothbore design with a circular base plate (350mm diameter), bipod and sighting device, and is usually available in three different ballistic barrel lengths, usually specified in the model name: 640mm, 895 mm, 1000 mm[/p ]
All models have a maximum rate of fire of 30 bombs per minute when loaded by two people in turn, or 12 bombs per minute when loaded by only one person. Of course, the maximum range depends on the length of the ballistic barrel and the maximum allowable charge.
Conversion kits for all three ballistic barrel lengths are available for hand-fired mortars (without bipods and sights) as commando mortars. The conversion kit includes a small round base, a slightly larger replacement rectangular base for soft ground, a sling, an aiming device for range adjustment, and a trigger grip that provides safety for Commando mortars will carry bombs in barrels.
The commando version is called the M6C and can be carried by one person. For these versions, operation is limited to a maximum working gas pressure of 300 bar.
This limits the mortar to a maximum of Charge 3; however for accuracy it is recommended not to exceed 2 charges (so the sight is only for 0 charge, 1 charge and 2 charges).
A modified version of the Special Forces is also in the works. This version is equipped with a recoil-absorbing damping system between the bipod and the barrel. The special forces version is called the M6H.
