History
In 2004, the KBP Instrument Design Bureau introduced a new Russian submachine gun "PP-2000". Production started in 2006, and since then the type has been adopted by the Russian Interior Ministry and some police forces across Russia.
Due to the compact size of the weapon and the pistol-caliber cartridge, the PP-2000 is also suitable for use as a submachine gun. It can also be used with the famous Russian SPETSNAZ special forces.
The PP-2000 uses the widely used German 9x19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge and is fired via a proven direct trans operating system. The total weight is 3 lbs and the overall length is 22 inches. A foldable stock reduces the length to a more manageable 13.4 inches, and an optional strap makes portability easier.
The rate of fire reaches 600-800 rounds per minute, and the effective range is up to 100 meters (with "overpressure" ammunition, engagements can be carried out at around 200 meters). It is fed from a detachable 20 or 44 round magazine mounted on the bottom of the pistol grip. The central position of the magazine within the grip allows for a more balanced approach, similar to the famous Israeli UZI. The grip is nicely contoured, and the thick trigger ring is integrated around a large opening for easy handling of the weapon by gloved hands. The barrel is short and closed by a slotted flash suppressor.
The overall shape of the receiver is quite unique, using clean straight lines to create some irregularities. Sighting is via the front post/rear notch arrangement and optics/sights/accessories can be added via the MIL-STD-1913 rail section included above the receiver. The lower part of the trigger ring structure can also support the installation of tactical lights and laser sights.
The tilt handle is located behind the visor, and due to its foldable design, it can be stowed away when not in use.
These weapons are designed for rapid response and portability in confined spaces and have proven popular with military and security groups. The high-capacity magazine allows the weapon to bring a lot of firepower to any battle.
In addition to the traditional 9x19mm shell, the PP-2000 also supports an armor-piercing projectile variant that can be used on suspects wearing body armor.
