History
MKEK KNT-308 is the first 7.62mm sniper rifle designed and manufactured in Turkey. It serves the Turkish Armed Forces, including special forces and police forces. The 7.62mm cartridge is the .308 Winchester and is widely used worldwide - especially in sniper weapons like the KNT-308.
The KNT-308 uses a proven manual bolt action system. The joystick is on the right side of the recording as usual. The stock is plastic to reduce weight, and the stock section has adjustable cheeks, shoulder pads and a monopod. The stock has an integrated pistol grip and an oversized thumb hole for gloved hands. The front of the rifle is supported by a foldable, adjustable bipod that can be stowed away for marching purposes.
Various optics can be mounted above the receiver for day or night operation. The barrel is partially exposed in the stock and protrudes some distance in front of the muzzle and is covered by a special muzzle flash suppressor.
The KNT-308 (designed by Kalekalip) was introduced in 2008 and is said to have been used in combat in parts of eastern Turkey and northern Iraq, mainly against PKK forces. MKEK markets this weapon based on several key characteristics - low cost, low operating weight and high accuracy.
The acronym "KNT" in the name stands for "Keskin Nisanci Tufegi".
