MKEK JNG-90 (Bora)

History

The Turkish Army has adopted a NATO-compliant domestic bolt-action sniper rifle, the JNG-90 "Borra" series from MKEK (translated as "Mechanical and Chemical Industries Corporation"). Design work lasted from 2004 to 2008 and resulted in a useful design for the standard 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. The weapon is fed from a 10-round magazine via a manually operated bolt breech assembly and aimed via various auxiliary optics above the receiver.

The rifle plays a traditional sniper role in the Turkish army, attacking targets from a distance with the high probability of killing provided by large rifle cartridges. The effective range is 1,000 meters and the muzzle velocity is about 860 meters per second. The stock can be adjusted to some extent to suit the shooter's custom needs.

Like most other modern precision weapons, the JNG-90 is equipped with a Picatinny rail section for adding accessories (including the sight holder and the sight holder on the front of the stock).

In addition to being adopted by the Turkish Army, the JNG-90 was also adopted by the Azerbaijani military - the only known foreign operator of this Turkish design in Turkey.
