Ordnance Revolver Model 1882

History

The Ordnance Revolver Model 1882 was the Swiss attempt to produce a lighter revolver for his army. The Swiss Army is already using fairly heavy pistols that fire 10.4mm cartridges. Lieutenant Colonel Rudolph Schmidt of Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland set out to design and develop a completely new cartridge for a new, lighter weight revolver.

The final cartridge became the 7.5mm x 23R, and the final revolver became the Model 1882.

The Model 1882 has a traditional revolver design. The detailed pistol grip is set low in the design and the hammer is within easy reach. The trigger is mounted in a circular trigger guard directly below the six-wheel rotating cylinder, which itself has a recognizable groove.

The bolt shaft is placed just below the hexagonal barrel, which itself is 4.5 inches long. The revolver is fired with a double action.
