History of SAKO TRG (Series)

TRG stands for a range of proven special purpose bolt-action sniper rifles from the gun manufacturer SAKO, Limited in Riihimaki, Finland. The first model appeared in 1989 and the line continues to this day (2015). It was used by coalition snipers during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

At its core is a rugged, precision-oriented and reliable sniper platform that has found many military and police customers willing to use this premium product from Finland.

As a bolt-action rifle, the TRG series requires the operator to operate the bolt handle to clean the firing chamber of spent cartridges and to insert new magazines from the waiting 5-, 7- or 10-round detachable case. Aiming is done with iron components or (more typically) with mounting optics mounted above the receiver as usual.

Day and night optics are supported for both day and night work. Effective range (depending on the rifle model and cartridge used) is up to 800 meters and 1,500 meters.

The heavy duty barrel and slide are cold forged for strength and durability, while the barrel is locked by a muzzle brake and flash suppressor combination (can also be replaced with a silencer for stealth on high value targets at a distance) Work). The stock is made of plastic to save weight, and the shoulder is adjustable, giving the shooter relatively high adjustability. It can also be set to favor right-handed or left-handed players, depending on your needs.

Available in a variety of exterior finishes to better suit the operating environment (tan for desert, olive for forest, etc.), some models go further and feature a foldable stock to keep it compact when traveling.

The TRG series includes the TRG-21 and TRG-41 models first released in 1989, followed by the TRG-22 and TRG-42 in 1999. Depending on the model, the total weight varies between products ranging from 4.7 kg for the TRG-22 to 5.8 kg for the TRG-42.

The overall length is also variable, 1,000mm for the TRG-22 and 1,200mm for the TRG-42. Next are 20", 26" and 27.2" length barrels, depending on the model.

There are few notable variants of the TRG series rifles, their main difference is their choice of chambers, which reflects changes in the internals of the rifles: the TRG-21 is for the .308 Winchester cartridge and the TRG -22 Sold in improved form with brand new stock. The TRG-41 is used in the . 338 Lapua Magnum cartridge and a sub-variant of this brand is the . 300 Winchester Magnum cartridge. The TRG-42 is an improved version of the TRG-41 with a brand new stock.

The TRG-42 "Sniper" is a dedicated precision model manufactured by Beretta, Italy, released in 2008 with a shortened barrel assembly, increased rib surface area and a folding stock. The TRG M10 "Sniper Weapon System" appeared in 2011 with a focus on tactical modularity - in fact, its appearance made it an entirely new weapon. Modifications to internals, magazine and barrel allow firing of .300, .308 and .338 cartridges.

This model is mostly reserved for military and police forces.

The TRG series is widely used in the world market, from Albania and Australia to Turkey and Ukraine, the list of operators of modern sniper rifles is quite long. Therefore, some local names were created, such as B. "Finskyttegevaer M/04" for the Danish Army and "8. 6 TKIV 2000" for the Finnish Army. The Swedish Army referred to the rifle as the "Prickskyttegevar 08", while the Swiss referred to it as the "SSGw 04".

The Australian Special Forces have adopted the highly specialized M10 brand.

This seems to be the most common of the models offered by the TRG-42. In addition to military and police service, some forms have also proven popular in the civilian hunting and sports markets.
