History of the Winchester Model 1300

Since its inception in 1978, the Winchester Model 1300 Series has enjoyed a stellar reputation as a line of classic shotguns. This series alone offers approximately 32 variants on the base design of the Model 1300, covering a full range of applications from military and law enforcement to security and target shooting.

Of all the models available, the Model 1300 is available in 12 or 20 gauge, with a choice of barrel lengths and anti-glare, satin or camo finishes to suit the operator's taste. Most come with the usual seven or eight round tubular magazines and Winchester's patented speed pump system.

In some forms, the Model 1300 can handle both rifle and lead rounds, all of which are operated via a conventional pump-and-slide system. The swipe action is considered one of the fastest operating systems available for this type of shotgun. Construction is steel, aluminum and composite, with some variants allowing interchangeability from full stock to pistol grips.

Some also offer sling swivel and mounting options for scopes and sights, as well as adjustable TRUGLO fiber optic sights if desired.

The design is conventional, with a rectangular receiver with a plate edge and an ejection port for releasing spent grenade casings. The magazine is a connecting tube that is fixed under the barrel. The barrel protrudes in front of the magazine. Some seven-round models can actually hold up to eight rounds, with one round loaded in the receiver ready to fire - leaving a full eight rounds in the magazine tube.

Some 1300 models feature rear bolts for quicker response and easy range for younger shooters. The trigger is held in an elongated trigger ring. The handle forms an ergonomic handle that can be traditional or straight "English" style. As mentioned, the stock is optional on some models and is completely replaced by a pistol grip for concealment and carrying.

The "Ocean" model is designed for use in salt-contaminated areas such as: B. Conception along the coast, where salt can erode otherwise delicate craftsmanship.

Type 1300 Combat Forms include Type 1300 Defender, Police, Slug Hunter, Marines, and Stainless Security. The Defender was banned in some European countries due to its high magazine capacity and shorter than normal barrel length.
