History of the SIG-Sauer P365

The P365 was marketed as a "mini-compact" semi-automatic firearm solution with a firing pin fuze, primarily for the concealed carry and secondary arms market, with a small footprint and capacity big. The gun has been in production since 2018, and the series achieved bestseller status early on.

To date, the P365 has been used as a backup/auxiliary duty weapon by several well-known and small law enforcement agencies in the United States, including the Chicago Police Department, Miami Beach Police Department, and Indiana State Police.

The P365 is the successor to the P290 compact pistol, which was manufactured by Swiss SIG-Sauer from 2011 to 2017.

The weapon has a very traditional look and layout: the pistol grip is integral with the frame and trigger ring, while the slide assembly runs through the entire frame and houses the barrel assembly and recoil spring mechanism. Grip serrations are positioned front and rear for improved slide management. The magazine release is easily accessible with the thumb of the master hand, and the bolt and bolt release lever are both on the left side of the frame. The ejection port points to the right side of the shooter.

Visors are located front and rear, and currently available configurations include FT Bullseye, Optical Ready with X-RAY3 Day/Night, ROMEO ZERO with XRAY3 Front and X-RAY3 Day/Night Visor.

Internal action is semi-automatic (short recoil, recoil lock), fed from a 10- or 12-round detachable magazine, depending on the model. Chambering is included in the ubiquitous 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger), albeit at .380 Cape Town. The magazine is inserted into the bottom of the handle as usual.

The P365 series is represented by a range of related pistols, including the base P365, P365 SAS, P365X, P365XL and P365-380. The barrel length of the P365, SAS, X and P365-380 models is all 3.1 inches, while the XL is increased to 3.7 inches.

The P365, SAS, and P365-380 models are 5.8 inches long, while the P365X is 6 inches long and the P365 XL is 6.6 inches long. The magazine capacity remains at 10+1 rounds on all models except the P365X and XL models (which have a capacity of 12+1 rounds).

The P365XL appeared in mid-2019 with an enlarged grip, a 12-round magazine and an extended slide assembly. The late 2019 P365 SAS features SIG Anti-Snag (SAS) quality for improved concealed carry and flush fiberglass sights. Introduced in 2021, the P365X pays homage to the earlier P365XL, including its flatter trigger assembly, optical mount, and enlarged grip (though no elongated slide assembly). P365-380 are for . 380 ACP (380 AUTO) and are designed to reduce kickback effects while improving overall control.

The model goes on sale in February 2022 for 10+1 rounds.
