History of the SIG-Sauer MPX Copperhead

The SIG MPX "Copperhead" is a unique, ultra-compact, AR-style Pistol Carbine (PCC) carbine manufactured by SIG-Sauer as part of the MPX line of firearms. The gun is purposely designed to be lightweight and compact for easy portability and deployment - with remarkable qualities for detail security, home defense, competitive shooting and general hand-to-hand combat (CQB).

Copperhead products represent the latest in the MPX lineup, which includes the long-standing "MPX PCC" and "MPX K".

The frame of the weapon occupies almost the entire length of the compact weapon and houses all relevant internal working parts. Its arrangement remains traditional, with the pistol grip/trigger unit located on the lower rear end of the weapon. There is a two-position safety lever near the ergonomic handle, and the magazine well is located in front of the trigger. Above the frame is a section of an M1913 rail for mounting a variety of tactical accessories, including laser sights and magnifiers. The PCB (Pivot Post) mounts can be folded through channels embedded in the top side of the frame.

Only the muzzle protrudes from the front of the frame, and there are no handguards to keep the overall length of the gun as short as possible. The receiver is divided into lower and upper halves, allowing free access to the interior when the weapon is detached.

The charging handle is an AR-style "pull-back" type, located at the rear of the upper receiver.

There are currently (2022) several copper head variants on the market, each variant is fitted with a 9mm luger and is based on a gas piston/semi-automatic operating system, but in terms of overall weight, barrel length (3.5" or 4.5 inches). 5"), trigger type, magazine number (10 or 20 rounds) and receiver design.
