History

The modern Chinese Army ("People's Liberation Army Ground Forces" - PLAGF) currently relies on no less than four different bolt series - dedicated Action weapon for sniper character. These include the "QBU-141", "QBU-202", "QBU-203" and "CS/LR4" series, the main difference being the calibers/chambers supported.

CS/LR4 is a relatively new product used by frontline services, also known as "NSG-1". Its official long form name remains "CS/LR4 7.62mm High Precision Sniper System - HPSS").

Like many other Chinese military solutions, this rifle is manufactured by the local defense company NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation).

The

rifle was designed in 2008 and launched in 2012 and is largely traditional in form and function. Other supported chambers include .308 Winchester and 8.6x70mm depending on the in-game variant. The internal function of the long gun is the manual operation of the bolt action (based on a rotating bolt system), which requires the operator to manipulate the bolt grip set on the right side of the receiver. Feeding is via a simple, spring-loaded, detachable 5-round magazine that nests on the underside of the frame, with lever-controlled loading of individual magazines. Although many types are supported, including simple telescope lenses, night vision goggles, and thermal imaging scopes, this design lacks iron sights and therefore requires optics.

The bipod located under the front fender can be folded for travel, and the shoulder rests (cheek and shoulder pads) are adjustable for operator comfort. Carry loop allows attachment of shoulder straps.

The free-floating, precise barrel is smooth and has a small section of Picatinny rail above the front end for additional tactical parts.

Surrounding the trigger is a hardened ring that is further integrated into the angled polymer pistol grip, which includes an oversized thumb cutout and monopod for added support. The magazine compartment is located in front of the trigger assembly, within easy reach.

The base variant of this Sniper Weapon System (SWS) family is designated "CS/LR4" and is primarily intended for use with the Western preferred 7.62x51mm NATO. The "CS/LR4" appeared as a modification with a longer barrel assembly and a lighter overall weight, which contributed to its effective engagement area, overall accuracy and range accuracy.

The "CS/LR35" has added the 8.6x70mm Lapua Magnum cartridge to its supported chamber and has a reinforced barrel assembly as well as a folding stock for more compactness on the go.

Chinese Army/Special Forces use "QBU-202" to designate CS/LR35 caliber 8.6x70mm. "QBU-203" is a 7.62 x 51mm model.

Outside China, both the Philippine Army (CS/LR4A) and the Venezuelan Marine Corps (CS/LR4) use this series of sniper rifles.
