History
The Soviet-era Kalashnikov assault rifle, now renamed "Vulcan" or "Vulcan-M" and "Malyuk," has been redesigned into a more compact bullpup configuration by the Krasyliv Assembly Plant in Ukraine. This configuration relocates the action, feed, and ejection ports behind the trigger, retaining the full-length barrel for long-range effectiveness while making the weapon more manageable and portable. This design is particularly beneficial for close-quarters combat (CQB) and is well-suited for Ukrainian special forces.
The Malyuk operates on a pneumatic rotating bolt system with a firing rate of 660 rounds per minute and is available in three calibers: 5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm NATO, and 7.62x39mm. It features a detachable magazine that holds 10, 30, or 45 rounds and is inserted behind the pistol grip. The rifle includes ambidextrous controls, a conveniently placed magazine release, and a fire selector switch near the shoulder rest. It supports various sights and tactical accessories through a long Picatinny rail on top and additional rail sections below the front bezel.
With an overall length of 712mm, a barrel length of 415mm, and a weight of 3.8 kg, the Malyuk is designed for easy handling in confined spaces. It has an effective range of up to 500 meters and can be equipped with a suppressor for covert operations. The Malyuk joins other standardized assault weapons in the Ukrainian military's arsenal, including the M4-WAC-47, Zbroyar Z-15, and the Israeli-Ukrainian Fort series.
