History of Ruger P (Series)

Despite competition from all sides of the small arms market, Sturm, Ruger & Company have risen to prominence alongside powerhouses Colt, Smith & Wesson and more. The company was founded in Headquartered in Southport, Connecticut since 1949, it has a long tradition of manufacturing rugged pistols and rifles for military, security, civilian and sporting purposes around the world.

One entry, the Ruger P-Series, marketed from 1985 to 2013, and despite its rugged, bulky appearance, it has a reputation for being sturdy, reliable semi-automatic pistols, with many variants following a tried-and-true base design.

At the heart of the P-Series is another incarnation of the original recoil-operated, locked breech-breaking action seen by John Moses Browning in the Colt M1911. Ruger products come in single-action (SA) and double-action (DA) forms with ambidextrous manual safety devices. The sight (three-point) is mounted on a rail, revealing an oversized side-mounted ejection port in the center of the design.

The general shape of the trigger ring is elongated for shooting with gloves.
