History of the RPG-30

Since the dark days of World War II, Russia (then the Soviet leadership) has placed a high priority on portable tank killing systems. The various developments that German tankers encountered during the conflict ranged from grenades and high-powered mines to anti-material artillery and specialized direct-firing field guns. In 1949, the world famous family of "rocket-propelled grenade" (RPG) launchers was born in the "RPG-2", these effective highly portable, shoulder-mounted, recoilless rifle designs. The improved (and definitive) "RPG-7" subsequently spawned many Soviet-backed states and allies during the Cold War. The line has since been modernized with the addition of the "RPG-30" of the 2008 brand and other similar anti-tank systems from Bazalt.

The weapon was designed and developed by Bazalt (National Research and Production Enterprise), which also produced it.

RPG-30 uses the same basic RPG concepts developed decades ago as the original RPG-2. The weapon differs from the similar (and modern) Bazalt "RPG-27" by implementing a decoy projectile fired before the main projectile, designed to defeat any "active protection system" (APS) scheme employed by the target vehicle (today A popular defense mechanism on large armored vehicles). The RPG-30 is designed to include a single-shot disposable launch tube and weighs about 10kg for easy portability. As a result, one operator can manage multiple RPG-30 launchers in the rear for transport, a common sight for RPG-7 operators today. The RPG-30 is loaded with a 105mm armor/structure-destructive rocket with a tandem shaped charge warhead capable of penetrating up to 200 meters.

Therefore, the system can be used to engage all types of "hard" targets on the battlefield within a certain range.

RPG-32 (also by Bazalt) is an updated version of the RPG series launched in 2008 and is currently operated by Brazil, Jordan, Lebanon, Mexico and Russia. However, unlike the disposable types of the RPG-30 series, the RPG-32 fires 105mm rocket-propelled grenades using a reusable launch tube.
