History
In the late 1980s, Uzi designer Gal improved his design. During this time, American gun manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. purchased the rights to Uzi. New materials like Zytel polymers bring Uzi up to modern standards. MP9 was added to the Ruger catalog in 1995.
However, despite being identified as an "improved Uzi" by its creators, the MP9 was not a success. The weapon was originally intended for use by U.S. government agents in close quarter defense, but was never adopted.
The failure of the MP9 meant that Ruger had not entered the submachine gun market since the MP9 was discontinued in 1996, focusing instead on their line of pistols and revolvers.
This weapon was used during the Burundian Civil War.
