History

After the disintegration of Yugoslavia, modern Serbia retained a mature military industry. These developments represent a variety of indigenous products, including main battle tanks (MBTs), armoured combat vehicles (AFVs), and various small arms.

To keep up with the demands of the modern battlefield, his industry has also pushed for the design and development of a domestically produced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) known as the "Pegaz 011." This aircraft is in the same class as the Israeli Scout series, the British Thales Watcher and the French Sagem Sparrowhawk - all details are elsewhere on this page.

Pegaz is designed for Tactical Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR). The system provides moderate quality and relies on autonomy to achieve its mission objectives. It can take off (by itself) from a prepared airstrip, or it can be launched by a catapult while driving itself through preset waypoints.

It also has an automatic landing function and can be recovered by deploying a parachute. The exterior design of the Pegaz features a dual-arm configuration with a central fuselage nacelle housing the engines, fuel and mission equipment.

Its wings are straight appendages, and its chassis is firmly held in place while on wheels. Power comes from a 43-horsepower 2-cylinder engine and a twin-blade propeller system located at the rear of the fuselage nacelle. Two vertical tails complete the design.

Dimensions include a length of 17.7 feet, a wingspan of 20.8 feet, and a height of 5.8 feet. The curb weight is 265 pounds, and the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) is close to 510 pounds.

Performance specs include a top speed of 125 mph, a cruising speed of over 90 mph, a range of up to 62 miles (approximately 12 hours of battery life) and an operational service cap of 3,000 meters.

Currently, Pegaz is being developed by the Serbian Military-Technical Academy and work has been ongoing since 2010. The first flight was recorded in October 2011.
