NORINCO Sky Saker Story

The Chinese military industry designs and manufactures a wide variety of products for its vast land, naval and air forces, including a large number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The aspirations of this part are multifacetedtrying to keep pace with the United States, demonstrating its technological prowess to neighbors, and promoting self-reliance in various fields. As long-term export customers of the Soviet Union, the Chinese are now ahead of their own products from the design stage to the development stage and can take over production locally.

Decades of reliance on outside help have mostly been associated with more complex individual systems, such as engines.

China North Industries Corporation - best known for making small arms and armored vehicles - is flying a new unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) called the Sky Saker. Drones are undoubtedly influenced by General Atomics' successful MQ-9 "Reaper" series, the Reaper itself being born from the unarmed Predator. In fact, NORINCO's product certainly shares many of the design cues of its American counterpart, including the bulbous section, straight-wing main wing, rear-mounted propulsion system (arranged in "slides"), fully retractable landing gear, and outward-facing Tilted Vertical Stabilizer. As a UCAV-class system, the Sky Saker was designed with ordnance carrying capability in mind from the start, with bearings mounted in the usual manner on underwing hardpoints.

For now, Sky Saker will support the carrying and launching of air-to-surface missiles as well as precision-guided drop bombs.

Sky Saker is based on the early Wing Loong drone detailed elsewhere on this page. It is suitable for export market.

In addition to improved attack capabilities, there will be now standard ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) qualities consistent with many modern UAVs/UAVs. The aircraft will be able to fill that role alongside its attack role, making it a true "hunter-killer" on the battlefield.

Due to the early design and development stages of the NORINCO Sky Saker, this article will be updated with new information. The performance and size data we specify are purely estimates.
