Aero A. 12 Stories
The Aero A.12 was specifically designed to replace the company's earlier biplane - the A.11. The A.11 appeared in the early 1920s, with around 440 prototypes produced for use by the Czechoslovak and Finnish air forces. The type is simple in design, with a biplane wing arrangement and tandem seats for the pilot and observer/tail gunner, with a front engine. The A. 11 was produced during World War I and in the years that followed.
The A.12 is essentially a modified version with the same functions for reconnaissance and light bombardment. In a world still recovering and recovering from World War I, this type of production is limited. The production figures below are estimates.
Externally, the A.12 mimics most of the lines on the A.11. The wings of the biplane have an uneven span with a single carriage. The engine - an air-cooled radial piston engine - was mounted in the forward compartment and drove a two-bladed wooden propeller mounted low in the nose. The panel sides of the hull have curved edges, making the A.12 a fairly clean design.
The pilot observes from the open position under the upper wing assembly and behind the engine. Behind him is the circular open-air position of the rear observer machine gunner. A ring base is provided to mount a trainable .303" Lewis machine gun or two. Pillow management sheet. 303" Vickers machine gun in fixed forward position.
All in all, this gave the A.12 enough offensive and defensive power at the time. Light bombs can be mounted under the wings for light bomb roll. A typical landing gear consists of two main landing gear, supported by multiple struts below the center portion of the wingspan, helping to transfer the overall weight of the aircraft at rest. The tail is supported on the ground by a simple tail skid.
The fins are conventional, with a single circular vertical fin and a pair of applicable horizontal planes.
