AeroAe. 02 Stories
Czechoslovakia was formed from part of the remnants of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of the First World War (1914-1918), which existed until its disintegration in 1992. The domestic fighter became Aero Ae. 02.
Its design is attributed to Antonin Husnik and Antonin Vlasak, undertaken by Aero Tovarna Letadel (Vodochody). Previously, Aero's experience was associated with coaching Hansa-Bradenburg B. I in Austria-Hungary in 1919.
A. 02 Benefit from the experience of the air powers of the First World War. It uses a streamlined fuselage and upper and lower wing assemblies (unequal spans) supported by a simplified I-pillar arrangement. The struts and wings were arranged to form separate compartments on each side of the fuselage. The ailerons are attached only to the upper wing panels, and the wings themselves are cloth-covered wooden attachments. Internally, a duralumin alloy is used to form the aircraft's load-bearing frame.
The engine was traditionally kept in the forward compartment, driving a twin-blade propeller unit in the nose. The landing gear is fixed in flight and rolls on the main leg members. The tail adopts a traditional single-fin arrangement.
The proposed weapon became a 2 x 7.7mm Vickers machine gun, firing synchronously via rotating propeller blades. Additionally, there is no built-in bomb-carrying capability.
Dimensions are 17.10 feet long, 27 feet wingspan, and 8.9 feet tall. Curb weight is 1,200 lbs and MTOW is 1,910 lbs. Power comes from a single 220 hp Hispano-Suiza 8Ba V8 inline water-cooled engine.
Josef Novak was the promoter of the prototype Ae. 02 when it first aired in 1920. In addition to winning first place at the 1st International Aviation Conference (hosted by Czechoslovakia) in 1921, Ae. The 02 had little commercial success and was not even accepted into service by the local air force. Instead, attention turned to its more evolved successor, the Ae.
