History of Calidus Wahash

Calidus Wahash (Wild Falcon) is a new product from the growing United Arab Emirates (UAE) defense industry, supported by ADG Mobility in South Africa. Wahash represents a state-of-the-art 8x8 wheeled armored combat solution destined to compete with the large market of Western products with the same multi-mission/multi-role classification.

Designed with maneuverability and survivability at its core, the car features an 8x8 wheel configuration to keep up with the workhorses as you please.

Wahash unveiled to the public during IDEX 2019 in Abu Dhabi. Ukrspecexport from Ukraine was commissioned for the series production of the vehicle.

The Wahash has typical Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV) design qualities such as flat armor panels, sloping side armor, high ground clearance, and roof/rear hull access hatches. The 8x8 wheel arrangement has full suspension for off-road riding, and each axle is well distributed. The headlights are recessed into the frontmost corner of the fuselage, and the rearview mirrors extend to provide rearward visibility.

Aft are raised taillights and a heavy hinged door (complete with steps) for access to the rear of the hull.

Water travel is possible due to the fully amphibious nature of Wahash. For this purpose, two propeller nozzles are located in the lower corners of the rear of the fuselage, although the speed is limited to 10 km/h.

Modularity is key to the success of the multi-purpose Wahash, whose chassis and hull are designed to take on the roles of Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) and Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) depending on customer requirements. A typical operator consists of three people (driver, commander, and dedicated gunner) and can tow and protect up to eight passengers. The driver sits on the front left, with the power pack directly to his right.

The turret can be carried near the midship, and the sunroof is located above the rear passenger compartment. Aircrews gain access to a state-of-the-art digital battlefield environment with full systems integration and real-time reporting for improved situational awareness and protection from nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) threats. An on-board fire suppression system is also standard. The 'V' shape at the bottom of the fuselage (a proven South African design element) protects occupants from explosions generated under the vehicle and directs potentially dangerous forces away from the center of gravity. Overall protection is against class 4a/4b mines, shells and STANAG 4569 class 4 ballistics.

Additional armor can be attached to increase survivability.

The top of the hull is designed to support all types of weapons, from small enclosed solutions like 7.62mm medium and 12.7mm machine guns to full powered turrets (like the Russian BMP-3 series range tracking IFV). This means the same The chassis can be used to deploy powerful weapons in the form of automatic artillery, grenade launchers, machine guns and anti-tank missiles (ATGMs) to meet mission requirements.

It can also carry a smoke grenade launcher for self-control.

The dimensions of the Wahash include a barrel length of 8.5 meters and a height of 2.7 meters. It weighs 32,100 kg at full combat load. The dimensions of the vehicle allow it to be airlifted in the belly of a Boeing C-17 "Globemaster III" or similar tractor. Performance figures include a top road speed of 130 km/h and a range of up to 750 km.

Power comes from a single 724 hp Scania DC13 diesel engine mated to a ZF7 AP2600 SP gearbox. The payload of the vehicle is 10,800 kg.
