In an era of growing interest in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the Army Services are also exploring the concept to fulfill a variety of battlefield roles, including reconnaissance, supply, weapons delivery, and fire support. Russia's Kalashnikov Group (named after a famous Soviet-era gun maker) developed their BAS-01G BM "Soratnik" as an Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle (UCGV) for weapons transport, armed reconnaissance and infantry firepower support. The design combines a tank-like tracked landing gear with a compact turret in the middle.

The turret supports medium and large caliber projectile weapons (including 7.62mm, 14.5mm and 30mm automatic grenade launchers) and can also be configured to carry 8?9M133M "Kornet-EM" (NATO: AT-14 "Spriggan"). ) Anti-Tank Missiles (ATGMs) for tank kills.

The tracked nature of the vehicle enables it to travel on land as well as traverse low water sources. This also helps the vehicle keep pace with the main mechanized force. The unmanned design enables a more compact footprint and a more modest power supply.

Total weight is approximately 15,435 pounds, and it can travel up to 25 mph and have a range of up to 250 miles. Although the BAS-01G product is typically marketed as an unmanned vehicle, it still includes some degree of operator control.

It remains to be seen how much market interest the Soratnik (and its ilk) will generate, as many of the world's armed forces still prefer manned combat systems. The car was presented at the Moscow military exhibition in 2016.
