History of FMTV (Medium Tactical Vehicle Family)
The Medium Tactical Vehicle Family (FMTV) is a family of vehicles based on a common chassis that vary according to payload and mission requirements. FMTV is derived from the Steyr 12M18 truck in Austria, but has been significantly modified to meet US Army requirements, including at least 50% US content.
There are initially 17 FMTV variants - 4 variants in the 2.5 ton rated payload category known as Light Medium Tactical Vehicles (LMTV) and 13 variants with a 5 US ton payload rated as Medium Tactical Vehicles (Music TV). ).
Since the first FMTV hit the market in January 1996, the home has grown in size and the overall design has improved significantly. FMTV was originally manufactured by Stewart & Stevenson (1996-2006), then Armor Holdings (2006-2007), then by now BAE Systems Platforms & Services until 2011.
It is currently manufactured by Oshkosh Corporation.
