History

Aeon Zeus is a U.S.-developed tactical guided missile system designed as a modular, software-defined precision weapon. Aeon has presented the system for dismounted use and for integration with manned and unmanned platforms.

The missile combines interchangeable targeting components with a modular payload architecture. Aeon states that Zeus can exceed Mach 0.65 and carry a 2.7 kg (6 lb) warhead payload.

Public information indicates that Zeus remained in development, testing, production preparation, and platform integration through 2026. Aeon has reported U.S. military contracts and has demonstrated production-representative hardware, but the specific military units receiving the system and their operational status have not been publicly identified.

Development

Aeon was founded in 2023. Founder and CEO Naweed Tahmas has said that observations from the Russia-Ukraine war influenced the company's emphasis on lower cost, production scale, and rapid adaptation. Zeus became the company's principal advanced tactical weapon system and was developed around Aeon's ODIN targeting software.

In April 2025, Aeon received a U.S. Army-related contract involving the Army Applications Laboratory and Transformation and Training Command. The work included development of a modular payload and an electronic safe and arm device for Zeus. Aeon worked with the U.S. Army DEVCOM Armaments Center and Aviation & Missile Center on the electronic safe and arm device and fuze. Global Technical Systems supplied a warhead that was integrated with the missile for testing.

By November 2025, Aeon reported completion of all-up live-fire testing for the U.S. Army. According to a Tectonic Defense report, the test used production-representative motors, fuze and electronics, together with a scalable warhead. Aeon stated that the integrated weapon completed its arming and firing sequence and that the warhead penetrated multiple steel plates. The company specifically described the tested hardware as production-representative rather than prototype hardware.

In 2026, Aeon disclosed additional characteristics of the missile. A Defence Blog report published in September stated that Chief Growth Officer Wes Shover identified a speed of more than Mach 0.65, a 2.7 kg warhead payload, a Modular Seeker Interface, and an Open Warhead Design. The publication noted that these newly disclosed specifications had not been independently verified.

Production approach

Aeon has stated that it designs and produces major Zeus components internally. Reported in-house work includes solid rocket motors, propellant, fuzes, flight computers, and control-system components. The company has described this vertical integration as a means of simplifying production and reducing dependence on outside suppliers.

Aeon has publicly discussed a target price of about $50,000 per missile and a planned production rate exceeding 10,000 systems per year. These figures are company targets rather than evidence that the stated production rate has already been achieved.

Design

Configuration

Zeus is designed as a modular guided missile that can be adapted to different launch arrangements. Aeon has described shoulder-fired use, multi-launch configurations, vehicle mounting, and remote operation. The shoulder mount can be attached or removed when changing between dismounted and mounted employment.

The company has also presented Zeus for installation on manned and unmanned ground vehicles and surface vessels. Work with Ukrainian partners has extended this concept to quadcopters, ground vehicles, and boats. According to an Oboronka report, Aeon confirmed an integration partnership with a major Ukrainian drone manufacturer to enable launches from quadcopter platforms. A separate Ukrainian partnership covers integration on ground vehicles and surface vessels. No completion date for these integrations was disclosed.

Guidance and targeting

Zeus uses Aeon's ODIN software-defined targeting architecture. Aeon states that ODIN supports automatic threat identification, persistent tracking, multiple targeting modes, and engagements beyond the operator's direct line of sight. The system can also interface with battlefield command-and-control networks through the Android Team Awareness Kit.

A Modular Seeker Interface is intended to allow different sensor packages to be installed for different target sets. Aeon has described the architecture as adaptable to targets including armored vehicles and unmanned aircraft. The available sources do not identify the individual seeker types or provide confirmed seeker performance figures.

Propulsion and control

The missile uses a rocket motor manufactured by Aeon. The company has referred to a minimal-smoke modern propellant and states that it produces both its propellant and solid rocket motors internally. Aeon also manufactures the missile's flight computers and control-system components. Publicly disclosed information does not provide motor dimensions, burn time, thrust, or missile range.

Warhead and fuze

Aeon describes Zeus as having an Open Warhead Design with a stated payload capacity of 2.7 kg (6 lb). The modular payload concept was tested with a scalable warhead supplied by Global Technical Systems during the 2025 Army-related live-fire program.

The missile incorporates a fuze and an electronic safe and arm device. The electronic safe and arm device is intended to prevent unintended arming or detonation before the required firing conditions are met. Aeon worked with U.S. Army development organizations on this portion of the system during the 2025 program.

Program status

Aeon has stated that it holds eight-figure U.S. government contracts associated with production and fielding of Zeus. Public reporting has not disclosed the exact contract value, delivery schedule, receiving military units, or specific programs that will employ the weapon.

As of September 2026, Zeus had completed reported live-fire testing with production-representative hardware and was undergoing continued development and integration for several launch platforms. Aeon was also working with Ukrainian companies on quadcopter, ground-vehicle, and surface-vessel applications. These integration projects should not be treated as evidence that those configurations are operational because no deployment schedule was disclosed.
