History

The UNEX UGV is a Ukrainian ground robotic complex (наземний роботизований комплекс) developed by Abris Design Group. In April 2025, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense announced that the vehicle had been codified and approved for use in the country's armed forces.

The platform has been tested on the Desna River and in narrow sections of the Dnieper. During testing with training anti-tank mines, the vehicle's ultra-low-pressure tires did not trigger detonation; no tests were conducted with live mines. Abris Design Group was also among five winners of the xTech Edge Strike Ground test held in Germany.

The development team is working on an additional generator intended to extend the vehicle's operating time to approximately 12–14 hours.

Specifications

The UNEX UGV is a fully electric amphibious platform capable of traversing off-road terrain, swamps, snow, ice, and water. The manufacturer states a payload capacity of up to 1,700 kg on land and up to 1,250 kg in water for cargo carried on the platform. The vehicle can tow artillery guns and wheeled vehicles weighing up to 10 tonnes, with the platform also able to carry ammunition for delivery alongside the towed weapon.

Manufacturer-stated specifications:

  • Dry weight: 2,250 kg

  • Maximum speed: 20 km/h

  • Maximum range: 120 km

  • Battery: 78 kWh (Li-ion); 32.7 kW electric motors

  • Operating time: up to 3 hours per the project lead; up to 6 hours per manufacturer materials

  • Ground clearance: 600 mm

  • Obstacle crossing: up to 1 m

  • Gradeability: 40°

  • Operating temperature: −30 °C to +40 °C

  • Control radius: 10+ km

The vehicle is equipped with patented ultra-low-pressure tires that increase ground contact area and reduce the risk of triggering explosives. The manufacturer claims the UNEX is the only wheeled unmanned vehicle capable of transitioning from water onto ice.

Remote control is available via Starlink, secure radio, LTE/5G, LEO satellite, and UAV relay links. The software supports semi-autonomous navigation, follow-me mode, and GNSS-denied operation with EW-resilient communications. If the connection is lost, the vehicle can automatically retrace its route to the last point with available connectivity. An escort drone can be connected to provide a simultaneous overhead video feed alongside the vehicle's own cameras.

A separate self-loading cargo module uses a hook and hydraulic system to pick up and deliver containers of approximately one tonne without direct human handling at the site.

Modular configurations

The modular architecture supports multiple mission roles, including logistics and casualty evacuation (CASEVAC), air defense (SHORAD), demining and EOD, ISR sensor and radar packages, weapon stations (ATGM, RCWS, loitering munition launcher), and counter-UAS. The manufacturer states the vehicle is NATO STANAG certified with an assigned NATO Stock Number.
