The
Moudge class is a group of frigates designed and built by local Iranian industry. It serves the modern Islamic Republic of Iran (IRIN) Navy, with a total of seven ships planned for the series: three completed, four under construction (as of December 2018), and two active. IRIN Damavand (F-77) is a member of this group and is third in the upcoming launch class (2013).
She was seriously damaged in an accident in January 2018, and she subsequently retired from IRIN.
Displacement is 1,500 tons. The vessel's dimensions include a barrel length of 310 feet, a beam of 36.4 feet and a draft of 10.7 feet. Propulsion comes from 2 x 10,000hp engines and 4 x diesel generators, allowing the vessel to reach a top speed of 30 knots in ideal conditions.
About 130 to 140 employees have been added on board.
Armament includes 1 x 76mm Fajr-77 deck gun and turret above the fore building, 4 x Qader anti-ship missiles (ASM), 2 x multi-surface surface-to-air missiles (SAM), 1 x 40-mm anti-aircraft missile (AA) gun, 2 x 23mm AA cannons and 2 x 324mm triple torpedo tubes.
Her exterior design is conventional for modern combat frigates. The turret is in the "A" position in the bow, and the helipad is in the stern (supporting a medium transport/anti-submarine helicopter). The bridge section has a low profile design with an exposed mast directly aft.
In the back is a radar seat and a closed, low-profile smoke funnel. The helipad is the last part of the ship.
January 2018 - The IRIN Damavand hit a breakwater at Bandar-e-Anzali on 10 January 2018 and eventually sank due to extensive damage. As such, it is likely to be withdrawn from active duty in the Iranian Navy.
