History
The HNLMS Van Amstel (F831) was a ship of the Karel Doorman class multipurpose frigate (also known as the "M-Fregat" class) of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Built at the Koninklijke Schelde Groep shipyard in Vlissingen. The ship was named after Dutch commander Jan van Amstel.
In 1995, it helped respond to Hurricane Louis on Sint Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles. It was also used in Operation Enduring Freedom of the Multinational Force in the Sea of ??Oman in 2001/2002. In 2005, it supported the Netherlands' response to Hurricane Katrina.
