History

The Burmese navy focuses its strength on fast attack vessels like Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) and frigates, with five frigates and three similar ships in their fleet. UMS Aung Zeya stands out as Myanmar's first and only guided missile frigate, commissioned in 2010 and still serving actively. Equipped to handle diverse threats at sea, it boasts advanced sensors, weapons systems, and a helicopter launch/recovery capability, providing a significant advantage for the Myanmar Navy in offensive and defensive operations.

UMS Aung Zeya, with a displacement of 2,000 tons and a length of 354 feet, is powered by four diesel engines, enabling a top speed of 30 knots and a range of approximately 3,305 nautical miles. Armed with a variety of weaponry including guns, missiles, torpedoes, and rocket launchers, it is well-equipped for both surface and anti-submarine warfare.
