History
The Sargan-3000 is a Ukrainian multi-purpose uncrewed maritime combat complex operated by the Naval Forces of Ukraine. Ukrainian officials announced in April 2026 that testing had been completed and the system had been adopted for service.
The system represents Ukraine's development of maritime drones from expendable strike craft into configurable surface platforms able to carry different effectors. Public imagery has shown Sargan-3000 craft equipped with a remote weapon station and containers for FPV drones, while Ukrainian operational reporting has associated the system with attacks on Russian naval targets.
Detailed engineering data remains restricted. A registered Ukrainian technical conditions document exists for the Sargan-3000, but its contents are withheld, and no Ukrainian government body has publicly released a verified set of dimensions, speed, range or payload specifications.
Development and adoption
A technical conditions document designated TU U 30.1-45190997-001:2024 was adopted in 2024 and later registered in Ukraine on 12 May 2025. The designation identifies the document as covering a combat naval surface medium strike multi-use maritime uncrewed complex. Registry analysis links the owner code in the document number to LLC Scorpena of Brovary, Kyiv Oblast. This establishes Scorpena as the registered owner of the technical conditions, but does not by itself prove that the company manufactures the craft.
On 14 April 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Sargan-3000 together with the Sea Baby and Magura V5 maritime drone systems. Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk also stated that testing had been completed in mid-April. The Sargan-3000 was announced as having been adopted by the Naval Forces of Ukraine.
A detailed independent review of the available documentation notes that the public record contains no verified official numerical performance data for the system. Figures frequently repeated for dimensions, speed, combat radius, payload and production rate originate from secondary reporting without visible primary substantiation. Design
The Sargan-3000 is described officially as a maritime uncrewed combat complex rather than simply as an unmanned boat. This terminology indicates an integrated system that includes the surface craft together with control, communications and support elements.
Mission equipment
Public imagery from July 2026 showed a Sargan-3000 configured with two transport and launch containers for FPV drones and a remote weapon station. This configuration demonstrates that the craft can function as a carrier for aerial drones while retaining its own direct-fire capability.
A craft assessed by defence media as probably belonging to the Sargan-3000 family was recovered in Constanta in June 2026. It carried a satellite communications terminal, an aft electro-optical camera installation and several antenna systems. Because Romanian authorities did not publicly confirm the exact type and configuration, these details should be regarded as probable rather than definitive characteristics of every Sargan-3000.
Armament
In a later combat engagement reported by the Ukrainian Navy, a Sargan-3000 was equipped with a Protector remote weapon station carrying a 12.7 mm machine gun. The Ukrainian Navy and Defence Intelligence reported that this configuration destroyed a Russian uncrewed surface vessel. Operational history
April 2026 Black Sea operation
On 6 April 2026, Ukrainian forces attacked the Russian-held Sivash drilling platform and targets at Novorossiysk using a combination of cruise missiles, aerial drones and armed maritime drones. One Ukrainian report identified Sargan-3000 craft as providing machine-gun fire during the operation, but other accounts described the naval drones only generically. The Sargan-3000 attribution therefore remains based on limited reporting.
Constanta incident
On 4 June 2026, the Ukrainian Navy lost communications with four Sargan-3000 craft operating in the Black Sea near Sevastopol. Ukraine later told Romanian authorities that Russian electronic warfare was considered the most likely cause. Three craft reportedly detonated at sea, while a fourth reached the Romanian port of Constanta on 5 June.
The craft entered the port and eventually grounded at berth 78 after travelling more than 6.5 km inside the harbour. Ukraine notified Romania that a previously established self-destruction sequence could no longer be cancelled because communications had been lost. Romanian authorities evacuated more than 1,000 people from the affected coastal area before the craft detonated at approximately 10:30 local time. No casualties were reported.
The incident showed that loss of the command link could create hazards beyond the intended combat area. Romania subsequently requested permanent technical communication procedures with Ukraine for compromised uncrewed systems and proposed that Ukrainian naval drones be programmed to self-destruct in safe areas outside Romanian zones of interest.
Izumrud strike
On the night of 13 to 14 July 2026, the Russian FSB Border Guard Service patrol ship Izumrud was destroyed while moored in a harbour near Gelendzhik in Krasnodar Krai. The Ukrainian Navy attributed the attack to a Sargan-3000. Satellite imagery and independent geolocation confirmed the destruction of the ship and its location, although those sources could not independently identify the weapon used.
The Izumrud had participated in the November 2018 Kerch Strait confrontation in which Russian forces seized the Ukrainian vessels Berdiansk, Nikopol and Yany Kapu. Ukrainian messaging surrounding the July 2026 strike emphasized this earlier connection.
Uncrewed vessel engagement
By 12 September 2026, the Ukrainian Navy reported an engagement that it described as the first battle between opposing uncrewed surface vessels. The operation was conducted with the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, whose units reportedly detected the Russian craft.
A Sargan-3000 equipped with a Protector 12.7 mm remote weapon station opened fire on the Russian uncrewed boat. Video released by the Ukrainian Navy appeared to show the Ukrainian craft engaging from a considerable distance before closing on the target. Ukrainian reporting stated that the operator first engaged communications antennas, then continued firing until the Russian craft was disabled and sank. The precise location and circumstances of the engagement were not disclosed.
Other reported employment
Ukrainian Navy statements have also described operations in which armed surface drones and FPV-drone carrier craft cooperated against aerial targets. In one account, two Ukrainian sea drones engaged a Russian Ka-27 helicopter using both FPV drones and machine-gun fire. Although this account appeared in discussion of the Sargan-3000, the individual craft were not explicitly identified by type, so the action cannot be attributed conclusively to the system.
Program status
The Sargan-3000 was announced as adopted by the Ukrainian Navy in April 2026 and was subsequently associated with several combat operations. Public evidence supports its use as a configurable maritime platform carrying remote weapon stations and FPV-drone launch equipment.
The engineering baseline remains largely classified or undisclosed. Reports claiming a length of 6.9 m, a beam of 2.2 m, a combat radius of 1,600 km, speeds of 40 to 55 knots, payload capacity of 450 kg and production of up to 25 units per month have circulated widely, but no Ukrainian government, Navy or manufacturer source has publicly confirmed those figures. They should therefore be regarded as unverified open-source claims rather than established specifications.
