Accuracy International AX50 History

The AX50 is a relatively new addition to the crowded Anti-Material (AMR) rifle category from Precision International (AI). AMRs feature prominently in modern army inventories as these weapons originated as the German Mauser Type 1918 (ATR) anti-tank rifles of the First World War (1914-1918). World War II (1939-1945) and the Cold War (1947-1991) saw the category evolve to such an extent that today's discerning buyer has a choice of brands and, in some cases, calibers (big to big) . Over 20mm! ).

As part of AI's line of AX rifle systems, the AX50 is based on the earlier AW50 AMR line. It fires a powerful force. The 50 BMG bullet, which in turn is based on the famous Browning Heavy Machine Gun (detailed elsewhere on this page), has proven effective against both enemy infantry targets (including those behind cover) and soft-skinned vehicles.

Additionally, the weapon can target individual components of heavy armored vehicles such as main battle tanks (MBTs), with an emphasis on imagers, sights, rail chains, and more.

The "business end" of the rifle is a three-chamber muzzle brake designed to reduce the violent recoil inherent in firing such a large cartridge. It's also designed to limit the amount of muzzle flash and dust created when shooting in certain environments.

The barrel is a free-floating design, which means it does not touch any part of the frame along the length of the frame, but instead screws directly into the bolt for greater, more consistent firing accuracy at range.

The firing action relies on a manually operated bolt locking system which requires the operator to operate the bolt handle. This grip is located on the right side of the frame and is easily accessible to the main hand of a right-handed shooter.

The bolt features six locking lugs and an integral extractor for maximum repeat fire performance in all conditions.

A corrosion-resistant, spring-loaded, detachable steel magazine inserted in the usual manner to the front of the trigger assembly. This contains five ready to fire. 50 BMG bullets in stacking order.

The trigger features a two-stage adjustable design with built-in protection against accidental discharge thanks to the oversized burn. It sits in front of the pistol grip and is ergonomically designed for a firm grip.

The trigger is located near the bolt handle for easy operation without requiring the shooter to remove the sight from the scope. A selector switch located behind the bolt handle serves as an extra safety measure, as the mechanism locks the bolt in place and limits access to the firing pin when activated.

The gun body is a rigid structure made of heavy metal and composite materials for perfect balance. The shoulder rest hinge folds on the right side of the rifle. It includes a butt pad and a cheek rest, both of which are fully adjustable by the shooter for some comfort. Fold down the shoulder straps to save about 10 inches of length - useful when traveling or transporting weapons.

The frame also has front and rear suspension points for using the shoulder straps - again to aid in the transport of this large weapon. Sections of the Picatinny rail are located above the receiver and around the front end, allowing the attachment of various optics, night vision (NV) and thermal imaging cameras, as well as traditional tactical accessories such as foldable bipods.

Gross weight (empty) is 26.5 lbs with a 27" barrel. The overall length reaches 1,415 mm. Available finishes include Deep Earth, Green, Light Brown, Elite Sand and Elite Midnight.
