History of the PGW LRT-3 SWS (Sniper Weapon System)
Anti-Material Rifles (AMRs) have been of great value to infantry-level warfare ever since hulking British tanks first approached German positions during World War I (1914-1918). The answer at the time was the Mauser 1918 T-Rifle, the world's first weapon of its kind capable of being a portable solution against tanks.
As the battlefield has evolved, so have anti-tank products, including mines and anti-tank missiles (ATGMs). Despite the dominance of missiles, anti-tank/anti-material rifles remain on the front lines and are used by snipers to target enemy personnel, light armored vehicles, or components of heavy armored vehicles (sensors, tracks, wheels, etc.). .. ) at your fingertips.
For Canada, the LRT-3 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) tactical rifle, manufactured by PGW Defense, is an indigenous, state-of-the-art AMR.
Comparable in class and performance to the American-made Barrett series, and playing the same role on the battlefield, weapons like the LRT-3 can even be deployed where maximum projectile firepower - portability - is required. This product has been in production since 2005 and is used to launch destructive substances.
50 BMG machine guns have an effective range of 1,800 meters (equivalent to a little over a mile). The rifle is managed by a manual bolt action system, where the grip and ejection port are located on the right side of the frame.
It is fed from a five-round straight magazine that is inserted into the action from below and in front of the pistol grip/trigger assembly. The skeletonized shoulder rest is fully adjustable, and the folding bipod assembly supports the front end of the rifle.
The main body of the weapon has accessory rails above, below and on the sides for attaching optics, mounts and other tactical items. The 29-inch long barrel assembly is stainless steel and can accommodate a silencer for long-range stealth combat. On the "business end" of the barrel is a multi-baffle brake to deal with the violent recoil effect inherent in firing such a powerful cartridge.
The cartridge has proven itself on the battlefield, capable of destroying lightly armored vehicles and even infantry from a distance (with very lethal consequences).
Currently, the rifle is available in a variety of finishes, including the standard black, cobalt, earth, green, and "sniper gray" finishes.
Despite the deal valued at $770,000, the Canadian LRT-3 series was adopted by the Ukrainian ground forces as the latest sniper solution.
