History

In 2000, Germany's DSR-Precision GmbH released the DRS-1 for the ubiquitous .308 Winchester cartridge and other chambers to follow (0.300 Winchester Magnum, 0.338 Lapua Magnum). The rifle was configured in a "bullpup" arrangement, placing the action and magazine/feed on the back of the trigger/grip section.

It has since been adopted by various parties worldwide including the German Special Police (GSG-9).

Drawing on this experience, the company developed the "DSR-50" in the Anti-Material Rifle (AMR) market. 50 rounds BMG (Browning Machine Gun) ammunition, fired from a three-round detachable magazine. Due to the forces acting on it and the size of the cartridge, the rifle was larger in size than the earlier DSR-1 at 1,350mm in length and had a barrel length of 800mm. Weight is 23 lbs (empty). A long section of Picatinny rail was added to the receiver and front end for mounting various optics for day and night operation, as well as a foldable bipod (the bipod supports the front of this heavy weapon and can be used in The parade is stowed when the operator is on).

Adjustable cheeks and a monopod were added below the shoulders to complete the look. Unique to this weapon is the location in front of the trigger mechanism, which is used to accommodate a second 3-round magazine.

Like the DSR-1 before it, the DSR-50 uses a manually operated bolt system that requires the user to slide the bolt lever over the side of the receiver to eject spent cartridges and insert new cartridges into the chamber. The recoil buffer is located on the shoulder, and the multi-baffle muzzle brake helps delay some of the violent force involved in firing such a large and powerful round. The cartridge is tactically useful as it is capable of defeating light armor - it can disable individual components of enemy tanks (sensors, sights), neutralize enemies behind concrete walls, disable vehicles within range (as we all know, bullets can penetrate through the engine block) ETC. .

Using the bullpup configuration allows the rifle to use a full-length rifled barrel assembly, which is set in a shorter stock, resulting in a shorter overall length. This also slightly increases repeatability as the size is narrower and closer to the shooter's body.

This type of long gun has grown in popularity over the past few decades, replacing the traditional rifle arrangement in which the action and magazine/feed are located in front of the trigger assembly.

It is understood that the DSR-50 series is in service in Malaysia.
