Manbi AMR Story
Cuba's strategic position in the Caribbean has always made it a target for the world's foreign powers, who have imposed upon it a history of political instability and military intervention. The Mambisis became a Cuban guerrilla formed during the Ten Years' War (1868-1878) against Spanish rule and continued to fight in the subsequent War of Independence.
In honor of their exploits and sacrifices, the Manby Anti-Material Rifle (AMR) - a rare large-caliber product from the island nation - earned its name. The rifle is manufactured by the Allied Industrial Army.
Rarely seen off the coast of Cuba, the Mambi is shrouded in a natural veil of mystery. However, some observations can be made about the system, as it is a heavy anti-material rifle that fires Soviet 14.5x114 mm cartridges through a pneumatic breech. The feed is a 5-round detachable magazine and the general configuration of the rifle is bullpup - feed and action are contained in the oversized stock behind the pistol grip and trigger assembly.
The magazine is inserted into the stock from top to bottom, and there is a curved stock under the stock. The pistol grip is located under the frame in the center, and there is a foldable bipod midway from the grip to the muzzle.
Due to the violent recoil effect, the muzzle is sealed by a massive brake assembly. A carrying handle facilitates transport of this large weapon system (83" long, 47" long barrel assembly), which is located above the receiver before the magazine is fed.
Since the Mambi does not carry an integrated aiming device, the operator has traditionally had to rely on optics mounted above the receiver. The maximum range is up to 3000 meters, and the effective range is close to 2000 meters. The muzzle velocity reached 3,655 feet per second.
Shooting from the prone position again due to the recoil (and weight) of the gun.
The rifle is believed to have been introduced in the 1980s. It saw combat operations in the South African Border War (1966-1990) and the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002), in which Cuban elements were involved. Additionally, it has a limited range and its performance is largely unknown in the region.
Still, Manby is an interesting anti-material solution from a country rarely considered a weapons producer.
