History

The Chinese Type 85 appeared in two forms in the 1980s as a budget-friendly alternative to the Type 79 and Type 64 silenced. The base submachine gun has a recoil mechanism fired from an open bolt assembly, a folding steel stock with a choice of single-shot or fully automatic fire.

The silenced version of the Type 85 has a steel silencer and fires the subsonic 7.62x25mm Type 64 cartridge, although the 7.62x25mm Type 51/TT cartridge for this weapon type is still available at the expense of stealth.

Both versions feature a folding stock and a detachable 30-round magazine.
