History of the ORSIS T-5000

In today's long gun market, bolt action purists can choose from a wide selection of 7.62x51mm NATO, .300 Winchester Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum. One such product for discerning buyers is the ORSIS T-5000, a hand-operated bolt-action weapon designed for tactical sniper roles. It currently (2018) claims that users are deployed at military, special forces and SWAT levels in China, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Russia.

It is used by special forces SPETSNAZ from Russia - this is a high level of support for this line.

The product was launched in 2011 by ORSIS, which was founded in 2011, and is currently produced at the company's factory in Moscow.

The T-5000 comes in standard flavors (and 0.408 Cheytac) and is fed from a 5- or 10-round detachable magazine (depending on the magazine). The layout of the weapon is very traditional, with action inside the receiver, ergonomic pistol grip/trigger assembly, and magazine feeder/chutes.

On top of the receiver is a length of Picatinny rail for mounting various optics. Above the right side of the case are the bolt-action handle and ejection port, and these functions can be reversed to favor left-handed shooters. The front end is ribbed and the barrel is free for most of its length. A foldable bipod and another short rail for additional accessories are mounted in the center of the barrel. The ribbed stainless steel barrel assembly with extremely tight factory tolerances is locked by a slotted triple-chamber muzzle brake, which is said to reduce perceived recoil by up to 50% compared to competing designs.

At the rear of the receiver are skeleton duralumin (D16T) shoulder rests with shoulder pads and cheek plates - both are adjustable.

Barrel lengths range from 660.4mm (0.308 Winchester) to 698.5mm (0.338 Lapua Magnum) depending on the chamber chosen. The weight is 14.3 pounds and the overall length is nearly 46.5 inches.

Trigger pull adjustment is available on Hunter and Varmint models. Other variants of the series are "Alpine" (big hunting), "Benchrest" (competition shooting), "F-Class" (competition shooting) and "Varmint M" (competition shooting/hunting).

The modernized variant of the T-5000 is known as the "T-5000M".

The T-5000 has so far been used in combat environments in Iraq and Syria.
