History of the DTA Stealth Recon Scout A1 (SRS-A1)

2008 Desert Tactical Arms (DTA) chambered at . 338 Lapua Magnum. Unlike most other bolt-action sniper rifles, the Stealth Recon Scout uses a bullpup configuration, with the magazine and bolt located behind the pistol grip.

This allows the use of a full-length barrel while still keeping the weapon at an overall shorter length. Additionally, the bulk of the weapon is now concentrated near the shooter's shoulders, and the oversized stock eliminates the need for complex adjustable cheek pieces.

The Stealth Recon Scout is made from a mix of steel, aluminium and polymer materials and is available in standard finishes such as Flat Black, Desert Brown and Forest Olive.

As a bolt action rifle, the action depends on the user operating the bolt handle, which is located on the right side of the frame behind the bolt grip portion. Safety is within the reach of the shooter's hand, while the magazine release has a quick release that can be managed with a support hand (assuming the bipod supports the front weight of the rifle).

It is fed from a detachable magazine, the amount of ammunition depends on the magazine (0.338 Lapua Magnum 5 rounds, 0.243 Winchester 7 rounds, etc...).

Beyond its initial .338 Lapua Magnum chamber, the Stealth Scout Scout now supports multiple calibers including .308 Winchester (7.62x51mm NATO), .300 Winchester Magnum and .243 Winchester Chester goes through a quick conversion process.

The finished product is said to be fairly accurate, weighing between 10 and 12 pounds, depending on model and accessories. Picatinny rail sections can be seen on the top receiver and handguard for mounting optics, sights, bipods, etc. Various muzzle brakes can be fitted to delay recoil.

Additionally, the brakes can be removed and mufflers installed for stealth work.

To date, the Georgian military has used stealth reconnaissance systems in the Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) role. These are usually suppressed with locally produced suppressors.
