The Harris M89 Sniper Rifle is considered one of the most accurate, durable and rugged weapon platforms in its class. On the surface, it mimics most of the shape of a traditional rifle, but what really sets this bolt-action rifle apart from the competition is the M14 magazine holder. Harris Materials states that their M89 is the only bolt-action rifle system that uses an M14 magazine.

The rifle is manufactured by Harris Gunworks, an American company based in Englewood, Colorado (although it originally appeared under the McMillan brand before 1995).

Adjustable stock (with recoil pad) made of fiberglass with integrated ergonomic pistol grip function embedded behind the trigger assembly. The trigger itself is located under the breech and is protected by an elongated trigger ring. The magazine is located directly in front of the trigger group and includes a magazine release/lock between the trigger ring and the magazine.

The bolt handle is traditionally offset to the right side of the frame and is covered with bullets for easy handling. The internal mechanism of the M89 is available in two styles - one in stainless steel and the other in chrome-hardened steel. The barrel itself is threaded at the muzzle end and can be fitted with a flash suppressor or silencer - both of which are used to protect the shooter's position. The body of the weapon includes the inner working parts, as well as the exposed barrel portion along the upper fairing. Additionally, the body is available in two different finishes, including a matte black oxide finish.

The front end ends approximately in the middle of the gun. An optional bipod can be mounted at the very end of the front end if desired. The various optics are mounted above the receiver via a 1911 two-point Picatinny mounting system that does not interfere in any way with the functionality of the bolt handle. The magazine features a simple M14-style straight line design, is available in 5, 10 or 20 rounds and supports 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges (0.308 Winchester).

A Mauser-style extractor is optional, with a larger bolt handle for easier handling, and a sling and soft and hardened carrying case. Barrel sizes include 22", 24" and 26" lengths to accommodate different ranges and accuracy. The entire rifle system weighs 15.25 pounds.
