History of RAG-30 / SAG-30

Czech Arms Corporation (CZW) produces the modern RAG-30 automatic grenade launcher for the Czech army. What sets this system apart from other contemporary products is that it is not only designed for 30mm grenades, but also fed from a top-mounted 5-round detachable magazine (as opposed to a drum, cylinder or belt). The weapon has an operating weight of nearly 12kg and an overall length of 1,000mm. The foldable stock design allows the system to be compressed to 755mm for better transport.

The RAG-30 uses lever-delayed recoil action and fully automatic fire. A related variant, the SAG-30, is a semi-automatic form with an internal closing bolt function.

Externally, the RAG-30 has characteristics of an assault rifle weapon system. There is a rectangular receiver with a bottom mounted pistol grip and trigger assembly. The shoulder rests are attached to the rear of the receiver and are padded for some comfort.

The large detachable magazine is located on the front upper part of the receiver (as seen on some pre-WWII machine guns). A flip-up mirror is located at the rear of the receiver.

The barrel leaves the front of the receiver wall with a small section of cooling fins, then becomes less detailed at the muzzle. A swivel, foldable bipod is located on the lower front end of the receiver to provide frontal support.

Like other weapons of this type, the RAG-30/SAG-30 is designed to carry multiple payload types - High Explosive (HE), Fragmentation (FRAG), Smoke and Illumination. The main grenade projectile is the 30mm VOG 17.
