Remington-Beals 3rd Model History
The Remington-Beals 3rd Model pocket revolver was the third incarnation, and further development, of the original Remington-Beals sidearm designed by Fordyce Beal. It was completed as dimensionally larger than its predecessors and increased the barrel length from 3" to 4". It retained the "spur" trigger of the 2nd model but held a more stylish hammer design. The frame was also extended slightly under the barrel assembly for increased strength and various grips could be affixed to the grip handle. The five-shot cylinder common to the 1st and 2nd models was another physical quality carried over as was support for the .31 caliber and percussion cap-based firing action.
The guns emerged from the Remington Armory at Ilion, New York and saw some service in the American Civil War (1861-1865).
